What is it - 3 Day Competition Event (Sup Surfing, Long Distance, BOP Surf Race)

This Tiny little coastal town during the week of the event get’s a population boost of SUP Paddlers of all ages and types. The Event offers a full Sup Surfing competition (something that is very rare these days) The SUP Surfing comp gives you the options for 10ft under and Smaller Performance, enter 1 class or enter both classes and you can be sup surfing with some of Australia’s Best and World’s best sup surfers on the perfect right hand point break. This year the surf was very small but this did not stop every single competitor from having a blast in the surfing events.

Then comes the Distance race this year was on the Saturday afternoon which takes place in the ocean and this year was a 3 km ocean triangle x 3 Laps = 9km or there also is the option for 3km (1 Lap) & 6km (2 Laps), should you not want to do the full 9km. The setting is a bit of everything race and a course that everyone can manage.

The final day Sunday is a earlier start for the BOP race, now this is a super fun race as the organisers make use of the right hand point break wave that runs for ages, you can virtually milk the wave from the buoy turn all the way into the beach transition. A smaller tighter course with a beach transition run each lap. This race is fun factor FULL, tight course with 3 buoy turns and plenty of racers to battle with.

Saturday night is the Party at the local Scott’s head Bowls Club / Sports Club, as everything is so close you can walk to it. Your competition entry which was $90 gives you a great Free Feed (It’s good too) you can chit chat with everyone and have some beers and there is live band, great evening for all. That $90 also allows you to enter all events Sup surfing and both races & Free dinner, what more do you want! Great value

The Scott’s Head paddle Games is a small event but has been running a long time and this was our first year of attending and sponsoring the distance race. Will ONE be back in 2020, absolutely it really is an old style SUP event that needs to remain alive. Low Key event and something for everyone including families and kids. Somewhere people can come test and demo boards. Most of the people that attend this event spend the whole week there and score perfect waves in a tiny little town. Plenty of dolphins to paddle with and LONG white beaches to walk along.

Accomodation options are great with a Local Holiday Park with Cabins or Tent sites that is situated right on the beach!! You honestly take 10 steps and you are on the event beach (it really doesn’t get any better) the town also has some small hotels and plenty of AirBnb houses to rent.

It’s a small town so you can almost park the car once you are there and walk everywhere.

The Event is put on by the Newcastle Stand Up Paddle Club and they have an army of event volunteers that ensure a great event for all.
